The Jets slammed the door on the 41-year-old quarterback potentially returning to the team when new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey issued a joint statement Thursday saying they told Rodgers last week “that our intention was to move in a different direction at quarterback.”

According to reports over Super Bowl weekend, the Jets had reportedly told Rodgers he would no longer be the team’s QB moving forward. With it fully known that the 41-year-old would be moving on, the Jets sent a “thank you” note to Rodgers on social media.

“Rodgers in a 49ers uniform would also bring his career full circle. San Francisco famously passed on the California product in the 2005 NFL Draft. Even though Rodgers would become a legend in Green Bay, he did suffer multiple postseason defeats to the 49ers along the way.”
