Alaska Airlines will stop flying out of Dallas Love Field in May, giving up a presence the carrier has fought bitterly to preserve for years.

Delta Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Alaska Airlines operate out of Love Field, Alaska Airlines uses two spots within Love Field’s 20 gates. So with Alaska Airlines not occupying the two lanes, this will open up two spots for the other airlines. It’s unclear which airline will use the gates that will be vacated by Alaska Airlines.

Alaska Airlines could potentially leave Dallas Love Field (DAL). This comes more than ten years after Virgin America, which it acquired in 2016, entered the airport following a public campaign to lobby Dallas officials to assign gates to the airline.

After operating at Dallas Love Field for a few years, Alaska Airlines decided to end service at the public airport this spring. Alaska, which first came to Love Field in 2017, currently operates a roundtrip between Dallas and Seattle five times a week.

Alaska Airlines is discontinuing service at Dallas Love Field. The Seattle-based airline confirmed in a statement sent to KERA Tuesday that it plans to cease operations at Dallas’ city-owned airport on May 14.

Alaska is authorized to use just two gates at DAL, which federal law restricts to 20 gates. The airline has also been leasing some of its space to Delta Air Lines (DL), which operates 14 daily round-trips from DAL to its hub in Atlanta (ATL). It is also worth noting that Southwest Airlines’ (WN) headquarters is adjacent to DAL.
