Two people were killed in New York City on Thursday when an intense line of storms dumped torrential rain across the mid-Atlantic and Northeast, triggering widespread flash flooding.
Authorities have identified the two men who died in flooded basements in New York City on Thursday afternoon. So much rain fell in such a short period that streets became flooded, pouring into buildings and overwhelming some subway stations.
“The rain blows in and brings all of these leaves to cover over catch basins and, all of the sudden, you’ve got a flooding situation,” said Aggarwala. “In some of those catch basins there was a foot of wet leaves they had to scrape out in order to get the water to go down the drain.”
