Playland Amusement Park will open Memorial Day weekend for free, according to Westchester County officials. But due to ongoing inspections, the number of rides that will be up and operating by the end of the month has yet to be determined.

Playland is working to fast-track the opening, after a private owner bailed, leaving the park to play catch-up.

The historic amusement park located just 20 miles from Manhattan faces an uncertain summer after Westchester County’s contract with its former management collapsed.
