Judge Denise M. Porter granted a 14-day temporary restraining order against the Western Athletic Conference that will allow Utah Valley University athletes to compete in this weekend's WAC indoor track and field championships.
On the eve of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament, Utah Valley is being threatened with banishment from participating. The WAC is basically saying, “Pay up or don’t play.” At dispute is a $1 million exit fee the WAC says was agreed upon since the Wolverines are leaving for the Big West in July of 2026.
Utah Valley University’s March Madness dreams have been restored. It just took $1 million to do it. On Tuesday, the Western Athletic Conference threatened to keep first-place UVU out of its postseason tournament over an ongoing legal dispute between the Orem school and the WAC.
