Putnam County deputies now have more authority to pursue fleeing drivers, regardless of the offense. The sheriff’s office said the goal is to stop high-speed chases before they turn deadly.

According to a lawsuit obtained by Channel 2 Action News, Terri Ball says she was an innocent passenger in a car being chased by police in February when she suffered major injuries.

After stealing a car in Phoenix, a man was hospitalized with critical injuries following a police shootout which occurred after a vehicle chase. No other injuries were reported. The incident is under investigation.
