HONOLULU (KHON2) — The lūʻau experience is often something made for tourists. With a focus on Polynesian history, culture and practices, these lūʻau are not exactly kānaka maoli, or Native Hawaiian.

On May 12, Hōkūpaʻa, Dartmouth’s Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander student group, held its annual lūʻau on Maxwell lawn, drawing 750 attendees, according to Hōkūpaʻa co-president Liʻua Tengan ’25.
