A fire in a Madison apartment was extinguished Thursday night due to an automated sprinkler, the Madison Fire Department announced Friday.

Improperly discarded cigarettes caused a fire at an apartment complex on Milwaukee Street on Thursday night, according to the Madison Fire Department.

Sprinklers contained a fire early Saturday at the Domain apartment building near UW-Madison, the fire department said.

The Madison Fire Department responded to apartment complex fires Thursday and Saturday, both of which were extinguished by automatic sprinklers.
