Some social media users have speculated whether markings visible on the bottom of the pool were caused by Trump’s motorcade, which drove the length of the pool on May 7.
National Park Service official Frank Lands also said at least 70 fence post tops were thrown in to the Reflecting Pool.
Interior Secretary Doug Burgum said they will: "Drain the water, repair the vandalism that was done. Fill it back up again."
A top official at the National Park Service says a liner along the bottom of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool was cut with a sharp knife or razor this month, causing damage to the foam sealant installed as part of a $16 million rehabilitation project.
The three individuals face misdemeanor charges of causing damage worth less than $1,000. Experts have said that the problems could have been caused by the pool’s makeover.
