The Detroit Police Department issued a warning to the public regarding scam text messages that may appear to come from official sources.
For the second time in February, a text message claiming “Important Notice from Hawaii MVD” stated that a traffic ticket must be processed by a certain date and demands payment that requires a text response. The Department of Motor Vehicles does not issue unsolicited text messages or requests for payments or personal information.
"These text message alerts are a scam designed to trick recipients into paying an undisclosed amount, while alsogaining access to their personal, private, and financial data," the news release said. "The Delaware DMVand E-ZPass Delaware will not contact you via email or text demanding payment for a violation."
