Pakistan's defence minister says the country is in 'open war' with Afghanistan, after airstrikes were launched on Kabul as part of a wave of attacks.

Russia has intervened between Pakistan and Afghanistan after military conflict between the countries escalated overnight.

An army spokesman also claimed that a Pakistani fighter jet had been shot down in the eastern Afghan province of Nangarhar and that the pilot was captured alive.
