Invest 98L in the eastern Caribbean is expected to strengthen into a tropical depression or tropical storm over the next few days.
Tropical Depression Nine formed Saturday in the Atlantic and is expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Imelda.
The Leeward Islands, including the U.S. Virgin Islands, should monitor the progress of a weather system moving across the Atlantic, as the National Hurricane Center (NHC) has given the disturbance — designated Invest 95L — an 80 percent chance of development within 48 hours and a 90 percent chance within seven days.
The National Hurricane Center has bumped up the odds that at least a tropical depression will form in the Caribbean this week. They now have chances in the high-medium range, which is in line with the consensus of the computer forecasts.
The National Hurricane Center designated a tropical wave in the Atlantic as Invest 98L on Saturday as it slowly crept toward the Caribbean.
