Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency Friday as a flood watch is in effect for early Saturday, Feb. 15, through midday Sunday, Feb. 16.

With the additional rain expected on top of recent downpours, Kentucky is bracing for 2 to 5 inches of rainfall, with river flooding being a primary concern in various regions of the state.

Flooding has inundated a swath of Southern states over the past 48 hours after more than 6 inches of rain fell in some areas.

Gov. Andy Beshear said President Donald Trump approved his request for an emergency disaster declaration for Kentucky.

Gov. Beshear reports that the death toll has risen to 14 due to flooding across the Bluegrass and that the state is shifting from search and rescue to recovery efforts.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said the death toll from the weekend's torrential rainfall reached 12, announced Monday night. Earlier Monday, Beshear announced the death toll had risen to 11 after the death of a man in Hardin County and another in Floyd County.

Gov. Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency ahead of the heavy rain expected to hit the Bluegrass this weekend.

The declaration would open up federal funding to be used for state cleanup efforts. Beshear also says he has been in contact with FEMA and Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem.
