C.J. Carr’s learning curve as Notre Dame’s starting quarterback has been like a drive down the expressway: bumpy, full of obstacles and, of course, fast.

On a day when No. 9 Vanderbilt lost at Texas and No. 10 Miami lost at SMU, Notre Dame at least avoided the unthinkable, losing as a four-touchdown favorite to a team riding a seven-game losing streak. Ahead of the first CFP rankings, stumbling at Alumni Stadium would have killed the season right when it should be getting good.

Jeremiyah Love’s pair of second-half touchdowns helped No. 12 Notre Dame hold off host Boston College 25-10 for its sixth consecutive win on Saturday.

Notre Dame has continued to win games, no doubt, but Carr and the offense haven't been as "locked in" as they would like to be in regard to the passing game. Things just haven't felt as easy or in rhythm as they did back during the hot stretch of mid-September.

After five straight wins following a 0-2 beginning to the 2025 college football season, head coach Marcus Freeman and Notre Dame Fighting Irish are set for an important five-game stretch coming off their final bye week of the year.

Realistically Freeman has everything he wants at Notre Dame, short of extra NIL funds, which every coach wants.
