Daredevil: Born Again made a baffling decision in its very first episode that proves that Marvel doesn’t understand why the original worked.

Towards the end of the episode, Matt and Fisk meet in a diner for a casual face-off. Fisk mentions mentoring a ward, who Matt says he heard shot him in the face. They're talking about Maya Lopez, who appeared in Hawkeye and then had her own spin-off Echo. They also talk about their many attempts to kill and/or incarcerate each other.
