Boston city councilors stood fast in their support of the city’s pro-immigrant Trust Act at a hearing Monday, defying President Donald Trump’s threats to crack down on so-called “sanctuary cities.”

Councilors passed two resolutions: one “ in support of immigrant’s rights legislation ” pending at the State House, and another “ denouncing the rollback of temporary protected status ” for Haitians, Venezuelans, and others. The former was approved with a 10-2 vote, while the latter was approved unanimously.

On Monday, the City Council is set to hold its own inquiry into the local policy, amid threats to cut federal funding for communities that refuse to assist in the government’s deportation plans.

Immigrants and advocates asked Boston City Councilors on Monday to preserve and strengthen the Trust Act, the law that limits police coordination with federal immigration authorities except for on criminal investigations.
