The Golden Bears hired longtime NFL coach and Berkeley alumnus Ron Rivera as its GM in March, and boosters want the former Carolina Panthers and Washington Commanders coach to have a similar level of control over the football program as Luck has in Palo Alto according to a report by SFGATE.

Luck is shouldering the load, while Reich’s only objective for the rest of 2025 is to coach football. Luck said his role as general manager at Stanford continues to prioritize fundraising for NIL and creating new revenue streams to keep up in this fast-paced era of college athletics.

Reich was announced Monday as the one-year solution after the firing of Troy Taylor, who was dismissed by Luck last week in the midst of ESPN reporting that he had bullied and belittled female staffers during back to back 3-9 seasons after replacing David Shaw.
