Fears that competitors could take its top rainmaking talent added to the law firm’s worries about a Trump executive order that targeted it.

The chair of a law firm that struck a deal with President Trump said the president’s executive order could have easily “destroyed our firm.” Chair Brad Karp told employees in a memo obtained by The Hill that he made an agreement with Trump that included pro bono support for the administration’s plans.

U.S. President Donald Trump said on Thursday he is withdrawing an executive order that targeted law firm Paul Weiss, saying the firm "acknowledged the wrongdoing" of an attorney who investigated the president and has pledged $40 million in free legal work to support the administration.
