A man is due in court in connection with a south Belfast security alert. Officers discovered a suspicious object in the Empire Street area on Wednesday morning, 29th January. On Thursday police said they discovered what they believe to be an ‘improvised grenade’.

Megan Finn (27) from Belfast was helped by an Early Intervention Team, a service that is still not available to everyone in Northern Ireland.

A 50-year-old man has been charged with a number of offences following a security alert in south Belfast. He is due to appear before Belfast Magistrates Court on Friday. Officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) attended Empire Street in Belfast and evacuated residents after finding an object believed to be an improvised grenade. The device was made safe and removed by ATO.

Megan Finn was on honeymoon in Spain in 2022, when she first took unwell. When she returned home, the 27-year-old was detained at Craigavon Hospital then brought to the acute mental health inpatient centre at City Hospital, Belfast.
