Central Florida Congressman Cory Mills is under investigation for an alleged assault, a spokesman for the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department said Friday. Officers were called to an apartment building about two miles from the U.S. Capitol at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, according to the police department.

The Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., said on Friday that it was investigating U.S. Representative Cory Mills, a Republican representing a district northeast of Orlando, in connection with a report of an assault on a woman this week.

GOP Rep. Cory Mills is being investigated by the Washington, D.C. police department for an alleged assault of an individual at a residential address about two miles from the Capitol, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Rep. Cory Mills, a Republican, was booked with simple assault on around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday. MPD arrested the congressman at an apartment unit on Maryland Avenue Southwest. "This is an active criminal investigation and there is no further information on the case to provide at this time," Police spokesman Tom Lynch said.
