Alien: Earth shares an unfortunate number of qualities with a pretty terrible sci-fi streaming series, but there may be hope for Noah Hawley's Alien show yet.

The "Alien" franchise gets an exciting new entry in its first TV series, "Alien: Earth," which explores life on our planet in the context of the hunt for xenomorphs to study and weaponize. The franchise's timeline has become increasingly confusing since the initial film was released in the late 1970s.

Earth doesn’t settle for unleashing the franchise’s signature acid-blooded terror on a new stage. It drags an entire menagerie of extraterrestrial nightmares down to our planet.

The series by creator Noah Hawley is described as a spin-off to the original Ridley Scott-directed film, " Alien ," from 1979. The film follows a space crew aboard the starship, Nostromo, who are on their journey back home when they receive a distress call from an alien vessel.

Alien: Earth might have already done something that the folk at Lumon Industries in Severance have been building towards.

In Episode 2 of Alien: Earth, Morrow successfully fought off the Xenomorph, for the time being, with a taser rifle and a net fabricated from artificial webbing. This act was extremely helpful, as it saved Hermit’s life when the Xenomorph was about to take him.

Alien: Earth is also uncharted territory for the franchise, bringing the Xenomorphs to home turf for the first time (the end of Resurrection doesn’t count). So, with the show kicking off on Hulu and Disney Plus, this is what you need to know about the timeline.

Alien: Earth is a welcome return to the insanity of the franchise after the last entry played things so awfully safe.
