SAN DIEGO — Red Sox starter Brayan Bello ’s changeup was considered his best secondary pitch as he advanced through the minor league system. It was his second most used pitch during his first full season in the big leagues in 2023 behind only his sinker. Opponents batted just .196 with a .291 slugging percentage against it.

Dylan Cease took a shutout into the seventh inning Sunday, while Luis Arraez delivered a two-run double to lead the San Diego Padres to a 6-2 win over the visiting Boston Red Sox.

Brayan Bello is on the mound for the Sox, who have lost two of their last three after seven straight wins. The Padres will turn to righthander Dylan Cease, who is having a middling season after a top-five finish in Cy Young voting in 2024.
