Politico Playbook reported on U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi announcing that she wants prosecution to seek the death penalty against Mangione if he's convicted.

The death penalty is also banned in the District of Columbia and in 22 other states, aside from New Jersey. In New York, the death penalty was outlawed in 2004 by a state court ruling. This means that New York prosecutors cannot pursue the death penalty in the case of Luigi Mangione.

The attorney general said the decision to seek the death penalty for Luigi Mangione, who is accused of murdering an insurance executive, was in keeping with an executive order by President Trump.
