California drivers are bracing for a double-whammy at the pumps as stricter clean air regulations and an increase in the state’s gas excise tax are set to take effect on July 1, which could send fuel prices soaring.

The average fuel price in the Midwest region slightly declined about 1 cents since last month. According to the EIA, gas prices across the region in the last year have been as low as $2.81 on Dec. 9, 2024, and as high as $3.48 on July 29, 2024.

The average fuel price in state rose about 8 cents since last month. According to the EIA, gas prices across the state in the last year have been as low as $3.75 on Dec. 30, 2024, and as high as $4.29 on June 10, 2024. A year ago, the average gas price in Washington was 2% lower at $4.11 per gallon.

As summer travel season starts to heat up, drivers are in for a pleasant surprise: gas prices are at their lowest point since 2021.

Gas prices are ticking down in most states, including Oregon. Refineries are cranking out plenty of product for the summer driving season. However, the price of crude oil has climbed above $65 per barrel,

"Michigan drivers are seeing lower prices at the pump, with some metro areas seeing averages below $3 a gallon," Adrienne Woodland, a AAA auto club spokeswoman, said. "If demand drops, alongside low crude oil prices, pump prices may continue to fall."
