A fter Brian Kelly departed Notre Dame to become the head coach of LSU, Marcus Freeman took over the top job with the Fighting Irish. Less than four years later, Freeman remains in that position, but Kelly is looking for a new gig.
Realistically Freeman has everything he wants at Notre Dame, short of extra NIL funds, which every coach wants.
“Coach Kelly gave me an opportunity to come here,” Freeman said, via Mike Beradino of the South Bend Tribune. “I’m always rooting for him. But it’s also the profession we’ve chosen. We know that can be a result of choosing this profession.” Freeman said he hated to see Kelly lose his job, knowing that it would affect families and players.
Over the last week, Notre Dame coach Marcus Freeman and Michigan coach Sherrone Moore have both come out in support of the playing one another on regular basis. There is a future home-and-home on the books for the Irish and Wolverines, but that's not until 2033 and 2024.
