A total of 13 people have been killed in the country this year in wildfires that have flared amid strong winds, high temperatures and dry conditions

The funerals of 10 rescue volunteers and forestry workers killed while battling a wildfire were held on Thursday in Turkey. Grieving family and friends of the five members of the AKUT rescue organization were joined by leading politicians and crowds of mourning citizens at the Ahmet Hamdi Akseki Mosque in Ankara.

Firefighters battled multiple wildfires across Turkey and Cyprus that have scorched swathes of land, forced the evacuation of towns and villages and killed 10 firefighters in central Turkey amid a searing Mediterranean heatwave.
