On this day in Rock and Roll History - December 2, 1967 Finally allowed to play instruments on their recordings, The Monkees scored their third US number one single with "Daydream Believer". Written by songwriter John Stewart shortly before he left the Kingston Trio, the song had been previously been turned down by We Five and Spanky And Our Gang.
