Why do we wax dip most of our pickups? If the innards of the pickup aren’t stabilized (with wax) it can cause squealing or microphonic feedback at higher gain/volumes. That being said, some find an unpotted pickup creates an “airy” and “dynamic” top end sparkle that can’t be recreated otherwise, which can also be a really cool sound!
