One day after the 1998–99 NBA lockout finally ended, Hornets president Bob Bass returned from contract negotiations relieved — but realistic. The relief didn’t last long. With a shortened season ahead, Bass said the focus immediately shifted to signing players and finding a big man to anchor the roster.
