🏀On June 21, 1997 the WNBA, the new women's professional basketball league, played its first regular season games. New York Liberty beat the Los Angeles Sparks 67-57 in the first ever WNBA game. Penny Toler of the Sparks scored the first ever points in league history. Rebecca Lobo led the Liberty with 16 points while Lisa Leslie finished with 16 points and 14 rebounds for the Sparks.
